JOHOR BARU: The police will be doubling the number of standard operation procedure (SOP) compliance teams due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in Johor.
Johor Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department chief Senior Asst Comm Alzafny Ahmad said there were 241 enforcement teams currently and Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has agreed to double the figure.
He added that enforcement would focus on industrial areas and conduct house-to-house spot checks on those under home quarantine.
"We will have about 500 enforcement teams focusing on SOP compliance among the public and will make more frequent patrols.
"Johor is one of the states with the highest number of daily Covid-19 cases, so we will help the Health Ministry and ensure public compliance with the SOP and the National Security Council's advice through strict enforcement," he said.
He was met by reporters after visiting police and Armed Forces personnel manning a roadblock on Jalan Pantai, Permas Jaya here on Sunday (Jan 31).
He added that house-to-house spot checks were conducted to ensure that those under home quarantine are really at home.
"So far, we have not received any reports about home quarantine violations. This is a precautionary step as the recorded infections in the state are high.
"The majority of cases in Johor came from industries so our enforcement will focus more on their SOP," he said.
Meanwhile, SAC Alzafny added that public SOP compliance at roadblocks was high and there had been no violations so far.
"We have 54 roadblocks in the state, including 12 under Ops Benteng," he said.
