A bit of WWII history resurfaces in Sarawak

Blast from the past: The stone at St Thomas’ cemetery dedicated to the memory of Allied prisoners of war. The inscription is believed to have been done by nuns who were interned by the Japanese at the Batu Lintang camp in Kuching during the war.

KUCHING: A World War II memorial stone has been rediscovered at the St Thomas’ Anglican cemetery here, and there are plans to preserve and restore it as part of Sarawak’s wartime heritage.

Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF) heritage adviser Datuk Lim Kian Hock said some people came across the stone during All Souls Day last November and made enquiries.
