I hoped to leave on good terms, says Leong after dismissal

IPOH: After learning of his sacking from DAP through the media, Malim Nawar assemblyman Leong Cheok Keng (pic) said that at first he thought it was a bad joke.

Leong said even though “all good things must come to an end”, it was with great sorrow and dismay that he received the untimely news.

“I was hoping that it was a bad joke, but it is not. After all, this is the party in which I have spent more than a decade of my life.

“It is my wish that I could leave on good terms. Hence, I urge all DAP members in my constituency to remain calm and continue the party’s struggle, ” he said.

It was reported on Monday that Leong had been sacked from the party with immediate effect.

DAP disciplinary committee chairman Chong Chien Jen said dual membership was deemed as treachery, citing media reports about Leong applying to join MCA.

Leong added he would, however, advice members in his constituency to follow the directions of the party’s central leadership and to enhance democracy in the party.

He also urged them to reject dictatorship and hypocrisy while supporting good leaders with the true “rocket” spirit.

The party’s decision to terminate his membership shall in no way affect his service and his team in his constituency, he added.

“I shall play an even more meaningful role in the state assembly, in terms of formulation of government policies, in favour of the people in general, and the Chinese in particular, ” he added.
