KEPALA BATAS: It is still too early for a new coalition to be set up that includes DAP and Umno in facing the next general election, says Chow Kon Yeow (pic).
The DAP vice-chairman said he doesn't have the answers or see a new pact being formed considering the volatility of the country's political scenario.
"Our current political scenario is similar to the current (Covid-19) pandemic.
"There is a lot of uncertainty and we are in the situation where we are facing political challenges," he said during a press conference at SP Setia Fontaines here Sunday (Jan 3).
The state DAP chairman said the 15th General Election may be the only way to stabilise the political situation in the country and solve all political conflicts but big questions remain whether it can really solve the problem.
He said nobody knows what kind of political scenarios will turn out after 2020 and everyone will be interested to see the progress on the matter.
Chow was commenting on the Pulai Umno division meeting that passed a resolution asking party leaders to quit the Perikatan Nasional government immediately to force a general election.
The Umno division became the first division in the country to pass the resolution.
Pulai Umno division chief Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed reportedly said the delegates at the annual general meeting on Friday (Jan 1) had unanimously decided that it is best for Umno to leave Perikatan before they were blamed for the failure of the coalition to govern properly.
He also reportedly suggested that Umno is better off working with PKR or DAP to secure non-Malay votes.
On whether a possible general election will be held during the first quarter of this year, Chow said the ruling coalition has to consider the current Covid-19 situation which is not improving.
"If they call for it, they must consider whether it is appropriate or not, and to consider the Covid-19 pandemic," he said.
