IPOH: Half a dozen stray dogs in Taman Cempaka here have died due to suspected poisoning in the last two days.
Condemning the cruel act, Ipoh Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals president Ricky Soong said there were proper channels to deal with stray dogs, and people should not take it into their own hands to kill the animals.
"We found three dead dogs on Thursday (Dec 17) and another three more on Friday (Dec 18) morning.
"We are not sure who did it and what was used to kill the animals, as there was no foam in their mouths," he said when contacted.
"I understand that some people don't like dogs or maybe their family members have been injured or scared by the animals, but such extreme measure is uncalled for," he said.
"As of today, a total of 17 dogs have been found to be poisoned in the city.
"I hope the people, including pet owners and volunteer carers and feeders, will be vigilant while looking after the animals under their care," he added.
