PUTRAJAYA: The enhanced movement control order (MCO) enforced on residents of Zone B and C, Taman Meru C in Ipoh, Perak has been extended for another seven days, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Senior Minister (Security) said health authorities had reported that they are still waiting for results from Covid-19 screening done on residents in the affected area.
A total of 1,793 screenings were conducted on the residents with 66 positive cases recorded.
“The Health Ministry has advised the National Security Council to extend the enhanced MCO for the area and the council has agreed to have the order to be continued until Dec 10, ” he said on Wednesday (Dec 2).
The lockdown on the two localities in Ipoh started on Nov 20, involving 2,288 residents and 572 houses.
The government also announced the end of enhanced MCO for Seberang Prai Prison and its staff quarters.
Ismail Sabri said the locality has been under lockdown since Oct 22 following increase in the number of Covid-19 cases reported.
He said that 3,254 screenings were conducted and cumulative positive cases recorded is 606.
“The ministry informed us that all the samples from screenings have been obtained and health authorities are not waiting for any more results taken from those in the affected area.
“The NSC has agreed to end the enhanced MCO for the localities today (Dec 2) as planned, ” he said.
