Married couple nabbed with drugs worth over RM290,000

KUANTAN: Police have arrested a married couple and seized various types of drugs estimated to be worth RM291,250 in a raid on a house in Jaya Gading here.

Pahang acting police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said the two suspects, both in their 40s, were arrested at about 11.30pm on Oct 12 by the Pahang Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department.

A search of the house uncovered 2,170 grammes of liquid cannabis, 1,905 grammes of heroin, 725 grammes of yaba pills and 1,515 grammes of Erimin-5 pills.

"Investigations found that the syndicate operated by doing drug drops at designated locations.

"They admitted to receiving payments of between RM1,200 and RM1,400 a week for carrying out the activity. However, checks found that neither suspect had any previous criminal record,” he told a press conference after the Pahang police monthly assembly here on Tuesday (Oct 20).

Apart from the drugs, police also seized five vehicles and jewellery estimated to be worth RM103,789.

Both suspects have been remanded until Oct 25 to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In a separate development, Azry Akmar said police arrested 31 individuals suspected of involvement in online investment scams, love scams and part-time job offer scams at four locations in Kuantan and Genting Highlands, Bentong, in five operations conducted from Oct 6 to 14.

"Preliminary investigations found that the syndicates were believed to have operated in an organised manner, using fake social media accounts and messaging applications to deceive victims and conceal their identities,” he said.

He said the cases were being investigated under Sections 420 and 120B of the Penal Code, as well as the Immigration Act. – Bernama
