KLANG: Restaurants with tables for 10 can now allow five people to dine in together in restaurants in Selangor, says Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Selangor Mentri Besar said the state government agreed to this after discussing it with the state National Security Council and the heads of local authorities in Selangor.
"Five people can be seated at a table for 10 with physical distancing," Amirudin said Friday (Oct 16), adding that many had been asking him about the matter.
It is understood that physical distancing between diners must be maintained at 1m each.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Sabri Yaakob announced on Thursday (Oct 15) that in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, which have been placed under a conditional movement control order (MCO), restaurants could allow four to a table.
Initially, the Federal Government said only two people would be allowed to dine together at any one table during this conditional MCO which is scheduled to end on Oct 27.
However, it is not clear if the five-to-a-table ruling also covered long oblong tables in coffeeshops and "kopitiam".
When asked about how many people would be allowed to dine together in regular coffeeshops and "kopitiam", Klang Municipal Council health department director Azmi Muji said in such cases, the Federal Government's four to a table ruling would be followed.
"We adhere to the Federal Gocernment's standard operating procedures," he added.
