Lack of rattan leaves weavers jobless

Better days: A visually impaired person weaving a rattan basket in this file photo. All 17 inmates of the Sarawak Society for the Blind have been left jobless since the beginning of the MCO in March.

SIBU: Rattan baskets are fetching a higher price due to the scarcity of material. However, for a group of visually impaired weavers that is not good news.

At the Sibu chapter of the Sarawak Society for the Blind a group of 17 individuals who had been earning an income by weaving rattan baskets are now out of a job due to the unavailability of rattan.
