BANGI: Compound notices amounting to RM4.01mil have been issued to 2,005 premises nationwide this year for breaching the Environment Quality Act 1974, says Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
The Environment and Water Minister said the Department of Environment had suspended operations at four premises.
Those were among actions taken this year under Ops Gempur aimed at taking stern action against those flouting rules and regulations pertaining to environmental quality, he said.
"From January to Sept 18, a total of 72 checks under Ops Gempur were carried out involving 2,572 premises nationwide.
"A total of 2,956 enforcement actions were taken," he told a press conference on Friday (Sept 25).
The authorities had opened 28 investigation papers for further legal action.
In Selangor alone, 92 enforcement actions were conducted this month.
