PETALING JAYA: The driver of the trailer in an accident involving a tower crane and a car in SS2 has come forward, says Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal.
He said that the driver lodged a police report on the same day the incident occurred.
"Our Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department is investigating the case under Rules 19 of the Road Traffic Rules 166/59," he said when contacted on Monday (Sept 21).
A woman had a close shave with death after part of a tower crane fell off a trailer and hit her car on Jalan SS2/24 in Petaling Jaya on Saturday (Sept 19).
In the 5.45pm incident, the 25-year-old victim was on her way home when part of a tower crane suddenly fell off the trailer and hit her car.
The roof, windscreen and several other parts of the car were damaged in the impact but the victim escaped without a scratch.
Speaking after the incident, ACP Nik Ezanee said that the initial investigation found that the accident occurred after part of the tower crane knocked into two telephone poles, causing them to collapse onto Jalan SS2/24.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a lorry driver died after crashing his truck into a bus stop near Kampung Melaka Hulu Langat here.
Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said the incident occurred at around 12pm on Monday.
"The investigation revealed the lorry was trying to avoid a car parked there and crashed into the bus stop and several stalls. Medical officers who responded to the incident declared the lorry driver dead at the scene," he said adding that both vehicles have been detained for evaluation.
He added that investigations revealed the 58-year-old lorry driver might have been experiencing health issues during the incident.
"The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination at the Serdang Hospital," he said.
