PETALING JAYA: The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) fares are reasonable, as passengers will enjoy shorter travel time, convenience and comfort, especially during festive seasons.
Najmi Syah, 30, from Terengganu, said the one-way fare from Gombak to Kuala Terengganu, starting at RM95 for the transit service and RM110 for the express service, was “acceptable” given the time saved.
The private sector employee based in Kuala Lumpur has been travelling between the Klang Valley and his hometown by bus and plane for years.

He said the new service would offer another option for those making regular trips to the east coast.
“The prices are still affordable, although slightly higher than a bus ticket.
“I look forward to enjoying the scenery along the ECRL route, making the journey itself part of the travel experience,” he said, adding that the shorter travel time and comfort made the fares worthwhile, particularly for those who want to spend more time at home with their families.
Najmi said he would be willing to pay the additional RM15 for the express service from Gombak to Kuala Terengganu.

“The faster I can reach my hometown, the longer I can be with my family,” he said.
Najmi expects the ECRL to appeal to travellers who wanted to avoid the jam during festive seasons.
“Taking the train could also reduce the risks associated with long-distance night driving, including driver fatigue and microsleep,” he said.
Siti Nur Aisyah, 27, a teacher from Kuala Lumpur who regularly travels to Kelantan to visit her parents, said the ECRL fares were reasonable if the shorter journey could save passengers time and offer greater comfort.
“Although the express fare is slightly more expensive, it is worth paying extra for a faster journey, especially when travelling home.
“I hope the fares remain reasonable so more people can afford to use the service, rather than having to rely on buses or driving themselves,” she said.
Lim Wei Jian, 42, a sales executive from Selangor, said the ECRL could be a convenient option for families travelling to the east coast, although affordability would depend on the total cost of tickets.
“When travelling with family, we have to consider the cost for each individual,” he said, adding that if driving, the cost of petrol and tolls are to be factored in.
