Dr Wong showing the razed restaurant where a dinner was held after his victory in GE14.

JASIN: A fire destroyed a row of four pre-war wooden shophouses at the Rim roundabout near here on Monday night (Sept 14).

Bemban assemblyman Datuk Dr Wong Fort Pin said one of the razed shophouses was a restaurant where a dinner was held to celebrate his victory in the 14th General Election in May 2018, just after the results were announced.

“The restaurant has now been reduced to rubble by the fire while another banana leaf restaurant was also ravaged," he said.

Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Mispani Hamdan said police received a distress call at 8.20pm.

He said the caller informed him that the "Ah Hwa" restaurant was on fire before police alerted the Melaka Fire and Rescue Department.

The department deployed six fire engines with 34 personnel. The fire was contained by 9.40pm.

The cause of the blaze is still being investigated.
