Upgrade works at Persiaran Kewajipan roundabout are on schedule despite concerns from residents over the lack of visible physical progress.

Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) Engineering Department director Dr Mohd Ariffuddin Kamari said the works on the roundabout was under the final phase of the four-stage project.

On May 27, StarMetro reported that the six-month project would start in July at a cost of over RM100mil.

“The first stage will take place in front of Subang Jaya Medical Centre, followed by Persiaran Jengka and finally, at the roundabout.

“We are currently detecting and identifying existing underground utility cables,” he said during the city council’s full board meeting at MBSJ headquarters in Persiaran Perpaduan, USJ5, Subang Jaya.

Mohd Ariffuddin added that coordination with Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Air Selangor, Telekom Malaysia and other utility providers was being done before major construction began.

“We are in the process of obtaining approval from Malaysian Highway Authority as part of the area falls under its jurisdiction.

“Developer Sunway Property, which is funding the upgrades, has indicated that the traffic management scheme is in its final approval stage.

“Based on the current schedule, we expect to conduct a trial run of the new traffic management system by year end.”

Addressing complaints regarding uneven road resurfacing carried out by utility agencies, he said the city council issues permits directly to Selangor Utility Corridor (Kusel), which has coordinated underground utility mapping since 2020.

“As Kusel acts as the intermediary responsible for coordinating and overseeing applications, we compound them if requirements are not met.

“Last year, we issued some 10 compounds to Kusel.

“However, where road patching is concerned, we have to allow for three months for the patched area to resettle.”

Mohd Ariffuddin added that MBSJ would hold a townhall session with utility agencies and residents to raise this concern.

On progress of the SK10 Seri Kembangan market, Mohd Ariffuddin said a contractor has been chosen after an open tender and work was expected to be completed within two years at a cost of RM16mil.

At a press conference later, mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said MBSJ was preparing for the 2027 Ramadan bazaar from Feb 8 until March 9, 2027.

It plans to have 22 bazaar locations, with 1,193 trading lots. Applications for permits will open online from Oct 5 to 19.

He also said a singing competition has been organised in recognition of singer Jamal Abdillah at Subang Parade Shopping Centre on Oct 31.

Jamal will give a special performance at 9pm where he will perform six songs.

Rumaizi added that 30 contestants would vie for a place in the finals. The heats will be held at 2pm and the finals at 8pm.

Later, 30 “Fly the Jalur Gemilang” campaign winners received prizes from Rumaizi.

The grand prize, an electric motorcycle, was won by Mohammad Ariff Bahatin.
