PETALING JAYA: Take time to appreciate this historical month with a patriotic spirit and show the love for the country at the same time, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

In a Facebook post Sunday (Aug 30), the MCA president said that the 63rd National Day is a time to appreciate the peace and harmony enjoyed by the country.

"In 2020, the country has been independent for 63 years now. This is a long period of time and we have faced numerous challenges and obstacles while achieving success after success.

"The characteristics of our togetherness within multiple races living under the Jalur Gemilang is a unique aspect of our beloved country," he said.

He also said that the current Covid-19 pandemic is yet another hurdle being faced by the country.

"Thankfully, with wisdom, understanding and the proactive steps taken by the government today, we have brought ourselves out from a more severe health and economic crisis that other countries around the world are facing.

"We expect Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth to be in the range of -3.5% to -5.5% this year. But for 2021, with some consolidation and focus, we will be able to return it to the range between 5.5% and 8.0%," he said.

Dr Wee, who is Transport Minister, also advised road users to be responsible drivers during this holiday period.

"May you all get to and return from your destinations safely," he added.
