Slim By-Election LiveBlog: BN wins with over 10,000-vote majority

TANJUNG MALIM: Barisan Nasional has won the Slim by-election with a landslide victory.

Election Commission returning officer Shamsul Ridzuan Idris announced the official results at the vote-tallying centre at the district council building here.

Barisan Nasional candidate Mohd Zaidi Aziz polled 13,060 votes, while independent candidates Amir Kusyairi Mohd Tanusi and Dr S. Santharasekaran had 2,115 and 276 votes respectively.

This meant Zaidi won with a 10,945-vote majority

Shamsul also said there were 327 spoilt votes and a voter turnout of 68.4%.

There are about 23,000 voters in the Slim state constituency.

The by-election was called following the death of its four-term assemblyman Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib, of Barisan, from a heart attack on July 15.

The Election Commission (EC) is aiming for an 85% voter turnout and the results to be announced by 9pm if there is no disruption. According to the EC, voter turnout as at 3pm was 60%.
