Seven killed in head on crash with trailer

IPOH: Seven people, including two children, were killed after the minivan they were in crashed head on into a trailer at the fifth kilometre of Jalan Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands at Simpang Pulai here.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said besides the children, the others who died in the 5.30pm accident yesterday were three women and two men.

Their identities were being withheld until the families were informed, he added.

ACP Asmadi said the adults were aged between 30 and 50 while the children were aged four and nine.
"The victims in the minivan were travelling downhill from Cameron Highlands. The minivan was believed to have swerved into the opposite lane, ” he told reporters when met at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital mortuary here.

ACP Asmadi said three others in the minivan, a man and two other children, were injured. He said the trailer driver, who escaped unhurt, had tried to avoid crashing onto the minivan.

He said one of the victim's lived in Kampung Badlishah, Serdang in Kedah.
"We believe they were heading there. We are unable to ascertain the relationship of the victims as of now, ” he added.
