Mohamad Ariff was picked by Pakatan, says Wee

All ears: Dr Wee at the Dewan Rakyat.

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof was replaced as Dewan Rakyat Speaker because he was picked by the Pakatan Harapan administration, says Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).

He said the motion to replace Mohamad Ariff did not mean he had not performed his duties well.

“Mohamad Ariff was appointed during Pakatan rule. The same goes with the replacement of crucial positions such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner and Attorney General, ” he said in an Instagram post yesterday. The MCA president said since the collapse of the Pakatan government following Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation on Feb 24, the government of the day wanted someone better to take over as Speaker.

“This is so that all matters between Parliament and the government, as the executive body, go smoothly, ” he said.

Dr Wee, who was present at the meeting, described the debate on replacing Mohamad Ariff as “heated”.

He also congratulated Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun, better known as Art Harun, for his appointment as the new Speaker yesterday.
