Johor govt to request RM115mil allocation to upgrade roads in Kulai

KULAI: The state government will be requesting RM115mil in allocations to be used for upgrading roads in the Kulai district to reduce traffic congestion in the area.

State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Ayub Jamil said that an action committee has also been formed to identify other routes in the district that needed urgent attention.

He added that Kulai will face massive road congestion if the matter is not dealt with within the next five years.

"The RM115mil is the expected cost for the multilevel intersection and bypass route development in Bandar Putra here that is expected to reduce traffic jams by 50%.

"I have also requested that the Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) and the Public Works Department (JKR) identify other routes that we can upgrade aside from the existing federal route and municipal route," he said when speaking to reporters after a working visit to the MPKu office on Tuesday (June 30).

He added that the allocation will be from the federal government and the state government would need to compile all the necessary reports to be presented.

"The existing federal route is no longer viable for upgrading work due to the limited land space so what we need to develop is a bypass route to disperse the traffic flow.

"MPKu with the help from JKR and the elected consultant will prepare a plan or suggestion of strategic places that we can redirect the traffic to," he said adding that the matter would need some time before being finalised.
