KOTA KINABALU: Trainees at the Montfort Youth Training Center here are now able to make use of solar energy while experiencing hands-on industry expertise and technical skills for careers in the renewable energy sector with a Solar PV initiative signed.
This Solar PV Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative is a collaboration involving the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) with Verdant Solar, Sabah Entrepreneurs Transformation (SET), and Montfort Youth Training Centre.
ECoS chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid, who officiated at the event, said beyond the physical installation of solar panels, the project incorporates a Solar PV Learning Module.
"This collaboration demonstrates how government agencies, industry players, educational institutions and community organisations can come together to create meaningful and lasting impact for the people of Sabah," he said.
"It reflects our belief that meaningful partnerships are essential to ensuring that the benefits of the energy transition reach schools, welfare institutions, training centres and local communities,” he added.
Earlier, Nasser said this handing over marked a milestone in cross-sector collaboration for Sabah's renewable energy transition.
He said the project, delivered under ECoS' flagship CSR programme, Program Khidmat Budi Tenaga Lestari, brings together industry players, government agencies, educational institutions and strategic partners to deliver sustainable energy solutions that benefit Sabah communities.
He said the initiative supports the goals of the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040 (SE-RAMP2040), which envisions a secure, sustainable, affordable and low-carbon energy future for the state.
The handover ceremony was also attended by Datuk George Lim, Founder and Founding President of Sabah Entrepreneurs Transformation, Zeth Lim, Chief Executive Officer of Verdant Solar, Frederick Mah, and representatives of Montfort Youth Training Centre, alongside distinguished guests and industry partners.
ECoS commended Verdant Solar for its corporate leadership, SET for connecting government, industry and educational institutions to empower entrepreneurs and youth, and Montfort Youth Training Centre for its continued dedication to vocational and technical education.
Nasser said ECoS expressed hope that more organisations will join Program Khidmat Budi Tenaga Lestari to expand sustainable energy initiatives across the state.
