PUTRAJAYA: The Minister in charge of Religious Affairs will look into whether two sessions of Friday prayers can be done, says Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“We shall let the minister look into this in detail and if there is a decision, we will make the announcement,” he said in his regular briefing here Monday (June 22).

He was asked if the government would take a cue from Singapore, which will allow Friday congregational prayers to be held in two sessions starting June 26.

The two half-hour sessions will be limited to 50 people per session, with a half-hour interval between the sessions to ensure safe crowd management, according to reports from the island republic.

Ismail said that the government has allowed for Friday prayers to be held with the congregation filling up one-third of the prayer halls or 40 people in certain places.

“That is quite a large number of people attending the prayers already. But we will let the minister look into this possibility,” he said.
