GOMBAK: Police broke up a party of 18 people at a house here that went against the rules of the conditional movement control order (MCO).

While patrolling the housing area in Taman Selayang Mutiara around 5pm on Monday (May 25), police found an unusual number of vehicles there.

It is learnt that there were 18 people in the semi-detached house attempting to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri when police arrived, and the house owner was out running errands.

The gathering went against the rules of celebrating festivals during the conditional MCO, where visits are only allowed on the first day of celebrations with a limit of 20 guests.

The first day of Hari Raya was on May 24.

The house owner was later brought to the Gombak police headquarters for further action.

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Arifai Tarawe said the house owner will be served a compound of RM1,000 for flouting the rules.

"As the house owner, he is held responsible for organising the gathering," he said.

He said police would continue patrolling to ensure rules under the conditional MCO are followed.

Separately, ACP Arifai said two men have been detained after they tried to resist arrest at Taman Selayang Jaya.

He said the men, aged 33 and 37, were on a motorcycle when police stopped them at around 1am on May 25 and found two packets believed to contain syabu.

"When we arrested them, the pillion rider put up a fight and hurled obscenities at police," he said.

The men were later brought to the police station and tested positive for drugs.

They have been remanded until May 27.
