KUALA LUMPUR: The enhanced movement control order (MCO) over Masjid India and its surrounding areas, including Menara City One condominium and the Selangor and Malayan Mansions is expected to be lifted in the next few days, says Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

The Federal Territories Minister said most of the residents, including foreigners living there, have been tested for Covid-19.

He added that those who tested positive had been hospitalised while those who were in contact with patients have been quarantined.

Annuar also commented on the foreign workers who were rounded up Friday (May 1) in Masjid India, saying some 500 who tested negative for Covid-19 were taken to immigration depots.

“These are workers without valid permits and they were treated in accordance with the law," he said.

“They have been tested and are healthy, and now we need to take the necessary action. We can’t just let them go back as they have broken the law," he said during a Facebook live-stream on Saturday (May 2).

Annuar reminded those who criticised the government for rounding up the foreign workers that the government had taken good care of them by feeding them and ensuring they had the necessary food and provisions when they were placed under enhanced MCO.

“But now that they have been cleared, we have to let the law take its course," he said.

Meanwhile, residents living in Menara City One who have been under lockdown since March 31 are anxious to know when they can be released.

“We were assured by the Health Ministry staff who carried out testing last week that the enhanced MCO would be lifted on April 27," said Menara City One management committee member Dr Nik Eliza Mohamed.

“They have disinfected the entire building twice and they say everyone is cleared but no one from the government is keeping us updated," Dr Nik said, adding that residents are feeling anxious and frustrated.

Menara City One was the first building to be placed in enhanced MCO in the capital city on March 31, followed by Selangor Mansion and Malayan Mansion on April 7, Masjid India on April 14 and Pusat Bandar Utara on April 20.
