RM200 aid for varsity students extended to Form Six, Diploma students

PETALING JAYA: The government’s RM200 aid to students will now also include students who are pursuing Form Six, diploma and other equivalent qualifications.

“The Finance Ministry is glad to announce that the aid will be offered to Form Six students, students pursuing a diploma or other equivalent qualifications, including those in institutions under the Human Resources Ministry, the Youth and Sports Ministry and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara).

“With the inclusion (of these students), the allocation will be increased from RM270mil to RM300mil to benefit about 1.5 million students,” said Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz in a statement on Saturday (April 11).

The government had previously announced a RM200 one-off aid to every full-time student at higher education institutions, as part of the stimulus package announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The aid included students at matriculation courses, community colleges, polytechnics, public and private higher education institutions under the Higher Education Ministry.

Tengku Zafrul said that his ministry will also be bringing forward the disbursement schedule to eligible higher education institution students from May to end of April.

“The government hopes that this aid will help ease the burden faced by students at higher education institutions during the movement control order (MCO).

“May they continue to persevere in their journey of gaining knowledge and honing their skills,” he said.
