Twelve arrested for allegedly flouting MCO in PJ on Sunday (April 5)

PETALING JAYA: An aggressive driver was among 12 people arrested here as the movement control order (MCO) enters its 20th day.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Alias said the driver, a 33-year-old foreigner, was stopped at a roadblock near the PJS2 toll plaza on Sunday (April 5) at around 5.30pm.

"He did not give a reasonable excuse for being out during the MCO and then he started shoving and shouting at a police officer and threatened to start a fight," said ACP Ezanee.

He said police also arrested a 32-year-old man riding his motorcycle around Jalan BU 1/11 in Bandar Utama on the same day at around 10.30pm.

The man also failed to give a reasonable excuse to be out during the MCO.

Others arrested on Sunday were four Malaysians and six foreigners, all of whom failed to give reasonable reasons for leaving their homes during the MCO.

ACP Ezanee said those arrested will be investigated under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020 and could face a fine of not more than RM1,000 or serve a prison sentence not exceeding six months or both.
