KOTA KINABALU: A man has been arrested for violating the movement control order (MCO) after police spotted him wandering aimlessly in Lahad Datu on Thursday night (April 2).
Lahad Datu OCPD Asst Comm Nasri Mansor said the 42-year-old lorry driver was picked up at about 9.55pm.
"When our men asked what he was doing, he said he needed to go pay his debt, ” he said in a statement here on Friday (April 3).
ACP Nasri said the reasons given were unacceptable and it was not an emergency situation, so the man was told to go home.
However, he insisted on continuing his journey. This resulted in his arrest.
ACP Nasri said further investigations found that the man was actually heading towards a company quite a distance away from his home to meet his friend to pay his debt.
“The man knows about the MCO and admitted that he had violated it for that purpose, ” he said.
The suspect is being remanded for four days.
