MCO: 611 people arrested in Johor, 117 charged

JOHOR BARU: Police have detained 611 people for disobeying the movement control order (MCO) imposed to curb the spread of Covid-19.

State police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay (pic) said 85 people were detained on Tuesday (March 31) alone throughout the state.

“This bring the total number of arrests for disobeying the MCO to 611, which the police recorded between March 18 and Tuesday, ” he said in a statement here on Wednesday.

Comm Ayob said out of those arrested, 117 people had been charged for various offences under the MCO.

Among the charges are under Section 186 of the Penal Code, Section 22 (b) of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act 1998 (Act 342) and Regulation 3 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Declaration of Local Area of Infection) 2020, which can be charged under Rule 7 Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases.

“Police are hoping to see greater public cooperation," he said, warning that stricter action would be taken against those disobeying the MCO.

Comm Ayob urged those with enquiries and information to contact the state police hotline at 07-2212999 or the nearest police stations.
