MELAKA: A seven-year-old boy’s wish to spread the National Day spirit among his family and neighbours has been fulfilled, thanks to the kindness of a doctor he met at a recent medical camp.

Year One pupil Jason Long Jin Feng was all smiles as he collected hundreds of miniature Jalur Gemilang from a shop in Jalan Kampung Pantai here yesterday.

He carefully picked out the flags since he already had in mind who he wanted to share them with.

“I will also give some to my dad for the National Day celebration that he is organising in Ayer Keroh,” he said.

Jason also plans to distribute the flags to his friends, cousins and neighbours.

As an added incentive, his parents have promised to take him to the state-level National Day celebration after he has completed his patriotic mission.

The flags were sponsored by Hospital Sungai Buloh obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Devendran Davidas, who was impressed by the boy’s confidence and cheerful nature when they met at the medical camp recently.

“He was such a charming boy and spoke very confidently.

“When he asked whether I could provide him with some Jalur Gemilang to share with his friends, I was more than happy to fulfil his wish,” he said.

Dr Devendran said he also planned to distribute more flags during health talks and medical camps in Negri Sembilan and Melaka ahead of National Day on Aug 31.

He said Selangor Bar chairman Yu Ai Ting has also pledged her support for the initiative, particularly in distributing the Jalur Gemilang to children attending the programmes.

“We believe patriotism should be nurtured from a young age.

“A small gesture like this can help children understand the meaning of national pride and unity,” added Dr Devendran.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the state’s 69th National Day celebration would be held at Dataran 1Malaysia Klebang.

He said the Melaka 2026 Civil-Military Cooperation Carnival, scheduled from Aug 29 to 31, will be among the major highlights.

Ab Rauf said three Royal Malaysian Navy warships would anchor off the Klebang waters, allowing the public to view the nation’s maritime defence assets up close.
