Disinfection exercise at all FT mosques

KUALA LUMPUR: Mosques and surau that have been hosting Friday prayers in the Federal Territories are cleaning and disinfecting their premises to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) said 61 mosques and 29 surau had been cleaned and disinfected since March 18, a process which would continue throughout the movement control order (MCO) until March 31.

“The disinfection will include 88 mosques in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan as well as all surau registered with Jawi that hold Friday prayers, ” it said in a statement yesterday.

Jawi gave the assurance that those involved in the disinfection activities would be using appropriate equipment in accordance with the advice and guidelines issued by the Health Department and the Health Ministry.

“This process is crucial to ensure the cleanliness of mosques and surau that may have been exposed to the Covid-19 virus as the houses of worship were also used for other religious activities, ” it said. — Bernama
