Cops rubbish recording claiming state of emergency will be declared

Dang Wangi OCPD ACP Mohd Fahmi Visuvanathan Abdullah.

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have rubbished a viral voice recording claiming a state of emergency will be declared.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Fahmi Visuvanathan Abdullah said they received the recording at around 9pm on March 19.

"We intercepted a recording of a man claiming to be the brother in-law of the Dang Wangi OCPD.

"The man is heard telling people to make preparations as a state of emergency is expected to be declared," he said in a statement on Thursday (March 19).

ACP Fahmi said he, as the Dang Wang OCPD, categorically denied the claim and did not know the man in the recording.

"I urge the public to refrain from sharing and spreading this fake news," he said.

Those with information on the matter should contact the police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or head to the nearest police station.
