Prasarana train and bus services to follow normal schedule

KUALA LUMPUR: All train and bus services operated by Prasarana Malaysia Bhd will run normally today, which is the first day of the movement control order.

“Train services for the Kelana Jaya and Ampang and Sri Petaling LRT routes, Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT route, monorail routes, Rapid Transit Bus for the Sunway route and services for the Rapid KL transit bus, Rapid Penang, Rapid Kuantan, Rapid Kamunting and Rapid Manjung will run on the usual schedule.

“However, we will monitor to ensure the suitability of the frequency of the schedule, ” said group chief operating officer Muhammad Nizam Alias in a statement yesterday.

Prasarana, he said, had to determine a suitable frequency throughout the two-week period because this was the first time that such an order was issued.

“We will discuss with the Transport Ministry, especially the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad), before any decision is made on the frequency of travel for the company’s trains and buses.

“We also confirm that the Pasar Seni bus hub will be open as usual for the convenience of the disabled, students and senior citizens to obtain a 50% discount on their journeys, ” he added.

Prasarana said it had, through its subsidiary Rapid Bus and Rapid Rail, taken proactive measures since the start of the outbreak, including cleaning the exterior of buses and trains with a special solution beyond the peak hours.

“Efforts to sanitise the interior, including the hand rail, escalator, elevators and ticket machines are done during peak hours in the morning and at night.

“For a busy station, the sanitisation is done more frequently. Anti-virus solution is used for the interior, ” it said.

Every Prasarana staff member is subjected to health screening every morning before starting work, the company added.

“The frontliners are also equipped with face masks and it is compulsory for them to wear it while on duty.

“Customers are encouraged to maintain hygiene and wear face masks if they are unwell, ” it said.
