Auto gates at entry points closed temporarily

KUALA LUMPUR: The “autogate” and “e-gate” systems at all entry points in the country would be disabled temporarily in light of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The gates were disabled beginning yesterday.

Immigration director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud said this would however not affect the entry of foreign tourists.

“Yes, it’s (autogate) disabled temporarily but it won’t affect entry. It is for the purpose of stricter control in curbing the spread of Covid-19.

“We are cooperating with the Health Ministry on this, ” Khairul said.

A letter purportedly issued by the department to the state Immigration directors asking them to close the autogate and the e-gate system had gone viral over social media. — Bernama
