Fadiah to continue fight against draconian laws

KUALA LUMPUR: Activist-lawyer Fadiah Nadwa Fikri will not back down in her fight for justice and freedom despite being investigated by the police over her tweet on Saturday’s rally.

Fadiah said she would continue to fight for all Malaysians.

“There is no such thing as exhaustion in our struggles.

“We can’t afford to be intimidated. Being tired is not in my vocabulary, ” she told reporters outside Bukit Aman yesterday.

Fadiah spent more than an hour being questioned by Bukit Aman CID Special Investigation Unit officers.

She also claimed that supremacist groups have been attacking her on social media.

“Subjected to draconian laws, we must stand up together and fight.

“I am calling out the former Pakatan Harapan government as well for failing to repeal draconian laws, ” she said.

Fadiah also said she and four other activists – Nik Azura Nik Narson, Liew Liang Hong, Wong Yan Ke and A. Sivarajan – were called up to the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 1pm today over the rally in Dataran Merdeka.

“They are investigating us under the Peaceful Assembly Act, ” she said.

Several civil society leaders were also present outside Bukit Aman, including Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, Ivy Josiah, Cynthia Gabriel and Sevan Doraisamy, to give her moral support.

Sevan said it was not an issue involving an individual but all Malaysians.

“Not only has the new government robbed Malaysian voters, they have also disrupted our 20-year struggle to bring change to the country, ” said the Suaram executive director.

Gabriel said what Fadiah spoke on the day of the rally concerned all Malaysians.

“There is nothing seditious about what she said.

“We need to tell Pakatan that they had the chance to repeal the Sedition Act but it is still here, so the struggle of the people must continue, ” she said.
