Proton X70 now cheaper by up to RM5,000

SHAH ALAM: The popular Proton X70 sport utility vehicle (SUV) is now cheaper by RM1,000 to RM5,000, depending on the variant.

The lower price tags are due to tax breaks as the 1.8-litre turbocharged five-seater SUV is now locally assembled at Proton’s plant in Tanjung Malim.

The X70 is now priced at RM94,800 (Standard); RM106,800 (Executive); RM119,800 (Premium) and RM122,800 (Premium X).

The sales package includes a five-year warranty with unlimited mileage, a five-year data package (1GB monthly), five times free labour

for scheduled services, low interest rates from 2.32% per annum and premium insurance coverage.

Also, the first 3,000 buyers get a better five-year data package (4GB monthly) worth RM1,740 and an accessories package worth RM2,000.

At the launch of the new X70 at the Proton Centre of Excellence, Proton chairman Datuk Seri Syed Faisal Albar said: “The 2020 X70 is a significant accomplishment for us as it not only represents the first model off the new production line, but also because we have exceeded the quality standards of the X70 model we launched 14 months ago.”

He said the new X70 signalled that Proton could build vehicles that met global quality standards.

“This is a big step for us because it shows that we are more than capable of delivering valuable product propositions of a global standard,” he said.

All variants of the new X70 are two-wheel drive as the previous all-wheel drive variant has been axed.

Also new is a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, which is standard across all X70 variants and replaces the former six-speed automatic transmission.The new transmission delivers 5% more torque for the X70 and improves fuel economy by 13% to 7.6 litres per 100km.

The X70 now also has rear reclining seats.

Upgrades for the top three X70 variants include front ventilated seats and a powered tailgate.
