Third man linked to Syed Saddiq provocation case nabbed

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested another man in his 30s to help investigations into the intimidation and provocation case against Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman at an event in Ulu Tiram on Friday (Jan 31).

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Kamaruddin Md Din said this was the third arrest that police have made prior to the earlier arrest of two individuals on Saturday (Feb 1).

"The recent suspect was nabbed in Johor Baru on Saturday evening.

"We are currently awaiting remand permission from the court," he said to reporters after the Johor Baru South police headquarters officiating ceremony here on Sunday (Feb 2).

He added that all three detainees are in their 30s and police are currently investigating whether they are involved in any political party.

A group of about 200 people showed up uninvited at the gathering of Johor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia members in Ulu Tiram, forcing Syed Saddiq to flee by climbing over a fence.

"We were surrounded by a group of 200 uninvited guests dressed in black," he posted on Facebook.

"They yelled and shouted rude remarks," he said, adding that his parents were also there at the time.
