KULAI: A two-year-old child from China is still being monitored for the novel coronavirus at Permai Hospital here, says Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal.
He said he would meet health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah for the latest information of the patient’s condition.
“Anyone who shows symptoms of the novel coronavirus will be placed under quarantine at Sungai Buloh in Selangor and Hospital Permai in Johor,” he said after launching a healthy community programme at Surau Al-Ansar in Taman Pancasila here yesterday.
The girl and her parents were stopped by the police before boarding a flight at the Senai International Airport on Saturday night.
The parents had defied an order for their daughter to be quarantined due to a high viral fever suspected to be caused by the coronavirus.
The three of them, who are from Guangzhou, had gone to the Sultanah Aminal Hospital (HSA) casualty unit on the night of Jan 24.
The girl was referred there by a private hospital after initial checks showed that she had a viral fever.
At HSA, it was learnt that the parents were told that the girl would have to be admitted to Permai Hospital to be quarantined.
The parents refused the advice and argued with the medical team before leaving HSA.
Hospital sources said the father did not want to miss a flight to China and all of them left the hospital without permission.
The police later stopped the family at the airport at 9.20pm on Jan 25.
