Head, body parts of missing man found in S'wak, believed to be victim of croc attack

MIRI: The head and body parts of a man believed to have been attacked by a crocodile were found early Saturday (Jan 25) in a village in the Lundu district in southern Sarawak.

In its latest update, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the body parts were found Saturday morning at Kg Sempadi at around 7am.

The victim is Fairus Latip, 37, who went missing Friday (Jan 24) while venturing near a river to catch fish, said Sarawak Bomba.

"Initial probes show that he was attacked by a crocodile.

"The remains found near the river were the head, part of the body and left leg.

"The rest of the body is believed to have been eaten by a crocodile. The remains have been handed to the police," said Sarawak Bomba.

Sarawak Bomba and villagers carried out a search Friday night and Saturday morning after receiving an alert at about 11pm about the missing man.

The body parts were found this morning at the banks near a river tributary.

Lundu is about 100km from Kuching.

Sarawak rivers have a big population of crocodiles that include species which can grow to beyond 10m in length.
