KUCHING: The state-owned i-CATS University College has been renamed Sarawak Tun Openg University of Technology (Tahotech) following its elevation to full university status.
The new name, logo and corporate identity were approved by caretaker Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg on Thursday (Oct 29).
He said the new identity reflected the university's strategic direction towards producing highly-skilled graduates who can contribute to industrial development and a tech-based economy.
"We also want this university to develop the character of graduates in a holistic manner so that they will have integrity and moral values in pursuing knowledge.
"Sarawak's progress should be driven by a generation that not only masters knowledge and technology but also possesses mature thinking abilities, strength of character and responsibility towards society," Abang Johari said in a media release issued by the university.
Tahotech's new logo combines elements of Sarawak's cultural heritage with natural resources, science and technology in a design symbolising a forward-looking institution with roots in local identity.
It was officially recognised as a full university on Oct 20 when Abang Johari and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir witnessed the handover of the certificate to vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly complex.
