Friendly faces Tanjung Piai’s Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng sharing a light moment with Pontian resident Lim Yee Boon, 37, and her friend Pai Ai Hong (left) at the Kayu Ara Pasong MCA service centre during a meet-and-greet session.

KUALA LUMPUR: Voters in Tanjung Piai should accept the “goodies” dished out by Pakatan Harapan but do the opposite to its candidate during polling, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

“TP stands for Tanjung Piai, which is important. It also means Tolak (reject) Pakatan.

“If they want to give food or money, accept it.

“But when you vote, reject Pakatan because they are not sincere, ” the Ayer Hitam MP told reporters at the Parliament lobby yesterday.

Dr Wee, who is also MCA president, questioned the timing of the RM1,000 cash handout to fishermen in Tanjung Piai next week.

“Why must it be given during this by-election?

“I think this matter should be answered by Pakatan.

“Previously, they were against it. I do not think this is fair to Barisan Nasional. Let the rakyat decide.”

Pontian MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan also described the handouts as “inappropriate” and urged Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal to rethink the move.

“I know this contest is very tight but giving handouts actually goes against election ethics.

“I urge the state government to postpone this until after the by-election, ” he told reporters.
