KUALA LUMPUR: There have been no interesting bids to take over highway operator Plus Malaysia Bhd, says Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“There are four (offers), maybe more than that. But we haven’t got an interesting offer yet, ” he said.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference at Parliament on Tuesday (Oct 22), Dr Mahathir said that it is a better option for the private sector to take over the highway, as the government isn’t interested to be involved with its business.
“We hope they make proceeds and we can get 24% from their earnings without any risks or investments.
“But, sometimes, the proposals from the private sector aren't interesting and we will study which is the best option, whether it will be owned by the government or the private sector, ” he said.
Dr Mahathir also said there is a possibility that Plus Malaysia Bhd will be sold to a private company.
Last Oct 19, Works Minister Baru Bian revealed that the government has received four formal offers to take over Plus Malaysia.
The four bidders are Widad Group, Maju Holdings, RRJ Capital and Karongsa Private Capital Sdn Bhd.
Baru said that all the offers will be reviewed and presented to the Cabinet, where a decision will be achieved within several weeks.
