PETALING JAYA: The MCA annual general meeting (AGM) will be held from Nov 30 to Dec 1 following a clash with the Tanjung Piai by-election.
Party secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon said the AGMs for both Youth and Wanita wings will take place on Nov 30.
“The postponement of the AGM necessitates the reorganisation and rearrangement of several logistic preparations, including venue, transportation, meals and accommodation.
“As the party headquarters has essentially completed the preparatory works, it is thus decided on the afore-mentioned dates for the AGM, ” said Chong in a statement on Monday (Oct 7).
The MCA AGM was supposed to be held on Nov 2 and 3.
Election Commission chairman Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun had announced the key dates of the by-election at a press conference in Putrajaya on Oct 1.
The nomination and polling dates for the by-election, which falls on Nov 2 and 16, respectively, coincide with both MCA and Umno's AGMs.
The Tanjung Piai seat fell vacant after the death of its incumbent MP Datuk Dr Md Farik Md Rafik on Sept 21.
The 42-year-old deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department died at the Pontian Hospital from complications following a heart attack.
In the 14th General Election, Dr Farid of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia had defeated MCA's Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng with a majority of 524 votes.
