SHAH ALAM: It is still too early to confirm or deny the involvement of an “insider” in the case involving a Malaysian pilot detained by Indonesian authorities at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta recently.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said several individuals had been called in to have their statements recorded.
“If someone else was involved, I would need solid evidence to say that an insider was involved.
“At the same time, I am not ruling out the possibility that there was no insider involvement. So, the investigation is still ongoing,” he said at a press conference at the Selangor Police Headquarters here on Tuesday (Aug 11).
Comm Hussein said efforts to track down other individuals suspected of being involved were also ongoing.
He added that tracing these individuals was not easy as they were using false identities to register telephone numbers.
“The syndicate uses false identities to register telephone numbers, so when the identity is false or inaccurate, we will not be able to trace them.
“So, we have to use other technical methods to track them down, and efforts are ongoing,” he said.
