MCA wants Penang CM to make stand on Dong Zong being labelled 'racist'

GEORGE TOWN: Penang MCA has called on Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow to make a stand after Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad labelled Chinese educationist group Dong Zong as "racist".

"We want Chow, who is the state DAP chairman and other executive members under the Penang government, to make their stand on the issue.

"So far, more than 10 DAP state assemblymen have criticised Dr Mahathir's statement. We wish to know what is Penang DAP's stand on this issue, " said Penang MCA Youth deputy secretary and party spokesman Ooi Teik Liang.

He said this after handing over a memorandum to a representative from the Chief Minister’s office in Komtar on Thursday (Aug 15).

On Tuesday (Aug 13), Dr Mahathir described Dong Zong as "racist" as it frequently protests the government's education policies, including the introduction of khat in schools.

Dong Zong had earlier claimed that the introduction of Jawi calligraphy in schools was a form of Islamisation.
