Teenage boy hangs self after scolding from older sister

BEAUFORT: A teenage boy was found dead in his bedroom at the third floor of a shoplot in Lo Chung Park here, hours after he was allegedly scolded by his older sister for skipping school.

District police chief Deputy Supt Azmir Abdul Razak said a report was received on the discovery at about 1.50pm on Monday (July 8).

"The police went to the scene at around 2.05pm. By the time they arrived, the body of the 15-year-old was already placed in the living room.

"An ambulance was also at the scene. Further investigations showed that the victim had died from hanging himself," he said.

DSP Azmir added that investigations revealed that his 51-year-old mother left for work at approximately 6.40am, and his younger brother went to school.

"He was left at home with his older sister. Before leaving for work, she told him off for playing truant.

"His brother came home at about 1.30pm and found him hanging from the ceiling in the bedroom.

"He untied the rope around the victim's neck and immediately contacted his mother," he said.

According to DSP Azmir, it is believed that the incident was caused by the scolding that the deceased got from his sister.

The body was sent to Hospital Beaufort for a post-mortem.

The case has been classified as sudden death.
