Cannon and mortar found at Fort Cornwallis


GEORGE TOWN: A cannon and mortar were found during excavation work on the outer defence structure surrounding Fort Cornwallis, thus completing historical data of the old fort.

Prof Datuk Dr Mokhtar Saidin, director of the Centre for Global Archaeological Research at Univer­siti Sains Malaysia (USM), said the excavation work conducted by 12 researchers last Friday, had found one cannon and a mortar that were both over 200 years old.
