GEORGE TOWN (Bernama): The father accused of splashing hot water on his eight-year-old daughter allegedly did so because his children finished all the food prepared by his wife, say Penang police.
Timur Laut police district chief ACP Che Zaimani Che Awang said in the 1am incident last Thursday, the pre-paid card sales agent had just returned home from work and was expecting to find his dinner waiting for him.
“Unfortunately, all the food prepared by his wife had been eaten by his four children, aged between three and nine, including the victim," said ACP Che Zaimani.
“Hungry and furious, he stormed into the living room where his three older children were sleeping and woke them up. The man scolded the kids and beat them up," he added.
ACP Che Zaimani said the man then took a bowl of hot water from their water filter and splashed it on the victim.
He added that what the man did was witnessed by his wife and other children, but no one did anything to stop him.
ACP Che Zaimani said that the victim's father did not splash hot water on her because she had allegedly stolen RM10 from him.
“The incident where the victim allegedly stole RM10 from her mother was an old incident and it was not the reason the father splashed hot water on the girl, causing her to suffer burns and scalds on her arms, ribs and chest,” he said on Tuesday (Jan 1).
ACP Che Zaimani said the man and his wife were believed to have fled from their Kampung Melayu, Air Itam flat to an unknown destination with their youngest child after the incident as they fear being arrested.
“The eldest and third children are now staying with their grandmother who is living at the same flat."
He said police are currently tracking down the couple. - Bernama
