TANJONG MALIM: The Perak government activated its State Disaster Control Centre (SDCC) on Sunday (Oct 19)following floods and storms that hit several districts, including Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS), as well as Manjung.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the SDCC's role was to monitor developments related to disasters and coordinate the response of relevant agencies, with 24-hour operations to be implemented if a disaster involves more than three districts.
"The state government, through the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), has also enhanced its preparedness by coordinating 6,283 personnel from various agencies, along with rescue assets.
"This includes 204 boats and 439 four-wheel drive vehicles to ensure assistance can be deployed promptly when needed," he said.
He said this at a media conference after the Perak State Government Meet The Clients Day MESRA Programme (Series 7/2026) at Dewan Seri Tanjong, Tanjung Malim District Council (MDTM) here on Monday (Oct 19).
Meanwhile, Saarani said 120 complaints were received during the programme, while a total of 1,306 complaints had been recorded up to Series 6, of which 1,064, or 81%, had been resolved, with the remaining 242 still being attended to.
The programme provided 80 customer service counters, five mobile service counters and six exhibition booths, including the Affordable Sales and Rahman Sales initiatives, while showcasing local entrepreneurs' products through the launch of products by members of Muallim's district's Persatuan Usahawan Wanita Bumiputera Malaysia.
Community welfare was also prioritised through the distribution of zakat wakalah contributions from the Perak State Agricultural Development Corporation to 24 recipients, involving laptops for 20 Sultan Azlan Shah Polytechnic and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris students, as well as medical assistance and business capital aid for four other recipients. – Bernama
