Parents should monitor children's activities, says Perak Education chairman

IPOH: Parents have been urged to monitor their children’s activities, especially when they take up part-time jobs.

Perak Education Committee chairman Dr Abdul Aziz Bari said that there is a need for awareness, as children could be working in dangerous environments such as factories.

“Students would want to get some extra income during school holidays.

Some would also want to try something new,” he told reporters when met at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital mortuary here on Wednesday (Dec12).

“The children should also inform their parents. Normally, there will be no objections to part time work," he added.

Six people were killed in a fire at a two-storey shophouse in the Jelapang Maju Industrial Area, Meru, here at about 1.55pm on Tuesday (Dec 11).

It is believed that four of the victims were schoolchildren who were taking up part-time work at the shop that provides outdoor event services.

The Tebing Tinggi assemblyman said five of the victims were also his constituents and that all five would be buried at the Kampung Kuala Pari burial ground.

“My service centre will take care of the funeral and expenses. The state will also provide whatever aid needed, he said.
