KOTA KINABALU: A police constable was robbed and assaulted by six men near a bank along Jalan Gaya on Friday night (Nov 16), just a day after reporting for duty at the district police headquarters here.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Habibi Majinji said the men, aged between 20 and 37, were arrested separately between 7.30am and 2pm Saturday (Nov 17) to facilitate investigations into the case.
According to ACP Habibi, the 22-year-old policeman was robbed and assaulted at about 11.45pm, leaving him with a head injury.
"He had just started work at the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters on Thursday (Nov 15).
"Among the items seized during the arrests were RM180 in cash, a police identification card, driving licence, ATM card, police cooperative membership card, notebook and a mobile phone," he explained.
ACP Habibi said the suspects would be remanded until Nov 23 under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt while committing a robbery.
