Education gets the lion’s share

EDUCATION has rightfully been given the highest allocation, says Prof Tan Sri Dr T. Marimuthu (pic).

The educationist said this was because education is a crucial driver of the economy, especially in Industry 4.0.

Congratulating the government, he said the education budget cuts across all schools.

“I welcome the attention given, especially to the B40 group.

“The repair and upgrading of infrastructure is important because studies have shown that a good learning environment can boost achievement by 20%,” he said.

Describing it as a “very progressive, farsighted and fair” budget, Melaka Action Group for Parents in Education (Magpie) chairman Mak Chee Kin said the allocation covers everyone.

“Every single stakeholder is taken care of – from senior citizens, high achievers and poor students to all types of schools – we all benefit,” he said, adding Budget 2019 showed that the Finance Ministry was aware of what’s happening in the education sector and was rectifying existing imbalances.

National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) secretary-general Harry Tan said the budget ensures education was available to all.
